Losing your only car key is one of those situations where the worst option is also the most obvious one: calling the dealership. Dealers typically charge more, require a tow, and take days. A mobile locksmith can handle most car key replacements on-site the same day.
How it works: a mobile locksmith uses your vehicle's VIN and the lock database to originate a new key. For transponder-equipped vehicles (most cars built after the mid-1990s), the new key also needs to be programmed to the vehicle's ignition system. We carry cutting and programming equipment for most domestic and import vehicles.
What you need to have ready: your driver's license and vehicle registration. Pennsylvania law requires us to verify that the person requesting a car key is the vehicle's owner or authorized user. A registration in your name is the cleanest way to establish that.
What affects cost: the make and model of the vehicle, the key type (mechanical, transponder, smart key/proximity key), and whether the key blank is a common or specialty part. We give free estimates over the phone before we drive out.
Call with your year, make, and model. We'll confirm whether we can handle it on-site, give you a price estimate, and dispatch from our Frankford Avenue location.
